Light It Right - Your Wick Tips & Tricks

Our wicks are the stars of the show in The Outpouring’s CandleSand refillable system, and guess what? They come with almost all of our TOP CandleSand products - so you’re always ready to get Lit!

But before you strike that match, let’s get you in the know. This page will cover everything wick-related: what they’re made of, how to use them for the best burn, and answers to the most common wick questions (and mistakes) we’ve come across.

Wick It Good!
Our flat braid, textile grade cotton wicks are specifically designed for natural waxes.  They are coated in a high melt wick wax for added stability can burn for a dazzling 10-12 hours when used correctly!

Here's the magic formula:

Simply sink your wick almost completely into the CandleSand, leaving only a tiny tip exposed (around 5 mm, with a maximum of 1 cm) for easy lighting.

The less wick that's exposed, the slower and longer it will burn.

Our guide:

• Use 1 wick for every 7 cm of CandleSand.
• Make sure the wick is surrounded by CandleSand on all sides.
• Less exposed wick = a longer-lasting flame.

One of the things our customers love most about CandleSand is that it's designed to be enjoyed again and again.

After you've finished burning your candle, simply allow the melted wax to cool and harden.

Once cooled:

1. Break the solidified wax into small pieces.
2. Place the pieces into a small bag.
3. Gently crush them back into a sand-like texture.
4. Pour the crushed wax back into your CandleSand.
5. Give it a quick mix, and you're ready to create another beautiful candle.

Instead of throwing wax away like a traditional candle, you're simply returning it to your CandleSand to enjoy again.

Reignite Your Flame!
You don’t need to start fresh with every burn - our wicks are the gift that keeps on giving! Relight the same wick until it’s fully used up.

Just keep in mind, trimming shortens the total burn time!

Extra Wicks = Extra Fun!
When you order our TOP Candle Sand, we include plenty of wicks so you can keep the flame going! Swap them out whenever you like, whether for a fresh look or just to change things up.

No Holder? No Problem!
Our wicks are free to roam! They aren’t attached to the jar, and that’s actually a wicked benefit. When the wick nears the end of its life, it naturally topples into the melt pool, safely extinguishing itself. So, no need to worry about the flame reaching the bottom of the jar. Of course, always keep an eye on any open flame, but rest assured our wicks take care of the rest.

My wick won't stay lit.
Make sure only a tiny amount of the wick is showing above the CandleSand. Too much exposed wick will affect how it burns.

My candle is burning unevenly.
Check that the wick is completely surrounded by CandleSand. This helps create an even melt pool.

My flame is too big.
Push the wick slightly deeper into the CandleSand or trim the burnt tip before relighting.
